Contemporary Art Space

Curated By Milagros Bello Ph. D. Shanghai, PR CHINA

Contemporary Latin American Art is no longer a peripheral art expression enclosed in a territorial microcosm, retrained to Latin American specific geographies. Contemporary Latin American Art reveals itself concisely strong and solidly rooted in the international art scene. Contemporary Latin American Artists interpret the spirit of contemporary times using iconic images charged with multiple allusions to socio-cultural politics. A new visual vocabulary, removed from academic constraints and rules, emerges. New visual signs and emblems take place in the visuality of these works. New subjectivities and personal mythologies appear as subject matters, deconstructing from mass culture and collective platforms. The pieces render fictional narratives and anti narratives with a polemic content and a parodic imagery. Contemporary Latin American revolves around disruptive strategies and acts as a "transformer" of social conscience. It juxtaposes multiple accounts on crucial issues and ideological standpoints. Latin American artist in this curatorial project questions reality and interrogates the purposes of our critical world. Each artist in his/her own way proposes metaphors and signifiers that dislocate, crystallize and mirror global issues.
Participant artists come from all nationalities and origins of Latin America. They have abolished traditional representation and have shifted to new mediums and meanings. New paintings and sculptures, installations, assemblages, digital photography, videos, are the mainstream of the Contemporary Latin American Art.
